Hello! Today is the last reflection of the course. I had looked back at my first relefction and still came to the conclusion that America is really self-absorebed. In my first reflection I had asked why was America called a melting pot when it taught very little of the Arabic culture and the thing is that America is not a melting pot, but more of a toss salad according to one of the books we read in this class.
I did successfully learn more than what I already knew (which was basically nothing). In the beginning I was really confused with the Islamic religion, but have learned more about it. I also learned more about America's involvement with the Middle East which was the most interesting to me (the topic also made me extremely frustrated). When we move on to more political subjects I almost felt like every time I came out of the class I became even more frustrated.
I wish we had delved into more of the cultural area, but it is understandable why we didn't since it would be too long to focus on it. It would also be easier to experience the culture more than just talk about it. I cannot wait until I get to study abroad in an Arabic speaking country.
