Weekly Report #3 Fairuz

Updated: Feb 27, 2018

Nouhad Haddad, more commonly known by her stage name Fairuz is an influential Lebanese singer. Born in 1930s, Fairuz was always singing as a young child. She was constantly performing at school which led to her discovery by a man named Mohammed Fleifel. This discovery led her to singing on the radio in a chorus.

A little while later Nouhad met Assi and Mansour Rahbani, brothers who had also worked at the radio station as upcoming artist like herself. When they had collaborated the song Itab (Blame) it had launched them into stardom. Assi and Fairuz later married in 1954.

A few years later Fairuz would be traveling to Egypt and meeting many famous people who wanted to work along side her, but unfortunately for them she was pregnant at the same time. In 1957 she had her first child, a boy named Zaid. As Zaid grew he would write songs for her mother to perform. Later that same year Fairuz sang live for the first time.

All throughout her singing career, Fairuz would continue to meet many established and influential people, such as the Kings from Morocco and Jordan where she sang at the Royal palace for one and was awarded a medal by the other. She went on world successful world tours. During the Lebanese war, she did not leave the country and did not perform as not to include biases.
