When searching for an article that displayed the Arab-Israeli Conflict, I came across one that particularly interested me. The title stated that Syria had stated that Israel had taken antiquities from a temple in Damascus.
Later in the article it was revealed that Syria’s United Nations ambassador, Bashar Ja’afari, had sent a well written letter to the Security Council accusing Turkish and Israeli “terrorist groups” had taken Jewish artifacts from the Jobar Synagogue and transported them to Istanbul and then to New York.
Another United Nations ambassador, Danny Danon, claims that Syria is just trying to distract the world from its war that had killed so many people.
The post later gives a brief backstory about the alleged looted Synagogue and revealed that back in 2014 it was actually involved in the Syrian Civil War before. It was actually looted back then where artifacts were actually stolen.
The reason why this short article was interesting to me was because it just seemed like such a simple thing that actually contributed to something bigger that what is actually displayed.Acording to the article the city of Jobar was thought to house the Prophet Elijah and in 2013 people who were opposed to Assad’s regime fled there. The synagogue has played a part in the war before, so it would be easy to throw it in again.
